These 5 foods will all make you thinner and healthier (without dieting)!

We were recently featured on The Daily Shot, and talked about some surprising foods that most people aren't eating. These foods can be powerful tools to help you slim down and get healthier. Check out the video here

Kefir –

In a 2011 study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, one hundred twenty thousand adults were followed for two decades. Those who ate one cup of yogurt daily spooned their way thin. Whether your preference is good old-fashioned yogurt, the chic Greek yogurt, or kefir, a unique yogurt-like drink, the added dietary calcium and phosphorous contained in all three can strengthen tooth enamel, prevent cavities, and reduce the risk of osteoporosis. However, while these dairy delights may offer similar micro- nutrient benefits, the probiotic benefits can be greatly different.

Kefir, meaning “good feeling” in Turkish, is a thin yogurt-like drink that is made by adding kefir grains (not real grains, but a symbiotic combination of bacteria and yeast that looks like cauliflower) to cow, sheep, goat, or camel milk (cow milk is used in the United States), which produces a slightly fizzy, sour-tasting drink. Kefir is a mainstay in the Middle East and Eastern Europe and has gained popularity in recent year in the United States for its probiotic benefits. Research shows that kefir has even more beneficial bacteria than yogurt and a higher nutritional value because it is made with bacteria and yeast.

Serve with organic berries and stevia.

Coconut Flour –

This wheat alternative, made from the meat of the coconut, is fantastic to thicken sauces and to bake with. It is very low in carbohydrates and it contains lauric acid, which can help to increase your “good” cholesterol.

It adds a natural sweetness to any
recipe.

Tip: when adding coconut
flour, you must add more liquid to
the recipe because this flour readily absorbs moisture. Adding egg to
the mixture will also help the coconut flour to act more like wheat
flour.

Coconut flour has no gluten,
and the eggs take the place of gluten.
Add four eggs for every half cup of coconut
flour. It is best to use coconut flour in conjunction
with another alternative flour, such as buckwheat or almond, in recipes.

Great for weight loss because wheat has gliaden protein, which has been proven to cause people to eat on average 400 more calories a day and the gluten causes belly bloating.  None of that in coconut flour!

MCT oil

What is MCT?

Wouldn't you love to know that there is a fat that does not get stored as body fat!

Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) work directly in cells to give you an extra boost to maximize your performance.  Very little MCT oil is stored as fat because it is used for energy so quickly!

MCT (Medium Chain Triglyceride) Oil is an easily digested fat found in foods like coconut oil, palm oil, and some dairy products. In its extracted and pure form, it can be used as a nutritional supplement, for cooking and as a high quality salad oil. BUT NOT ALONE! (Read why)

MCT is a very healthy fat, which bypasses the normal process of digestion and fat break down. Instead it gets absorbed directly into your liver where it is metabolized and acts more like a carbohydrate, providing instant and sustained energy for your body.

MCT oil can help in losing weight and in maintaining your optimal weight by boosting your metabolism and helping to optimize the production of thyroid hormones. It has been shown to help treat seizures due to its ability to increase Ketone production. It is also beneficial in helping diabetics maintain blood sugar levels. Many athletes find that it is a great supplement to take prior to training or competitions since it seems to provide hours of sustained energy and helps maintain muscle strength and stamina.

MCT oil has also been shown to help people with digestive issues, such as irritable bowel syndrome, Crones Disease, cystic fibrosis, and Alzheimer’s. People who are fighting fungal infections find that MCT oil accelerates their healing.

  • MCFAs are easily digested, thus putting less strain on your digestive system. This is especially important for those of you with digestive or metabolic concerns.
  • MCFAs are sent directly to your liver, where they are immediately converted into energy rather than being stored as fat.
  • MCFAs in coconut oil can actually help stimulate your body's metabolism, leading to weight loss.
  • Fat that burns fat

But make sure you don't go for MCTs alone. They don't contain the long chain fatty acids needed to absorb the micronutrients on your salad.  Check out SKINNYFat to learn more about how we upgraded the mct experience.

Salmon

People make salmon something that they don't eat all the time.  But overseas the Norwegians eat it breakfast lunch and dinner and here we are scared of how to cook it.

Lunch salmon cakes… we can bring some if you want.. these are a fab treat and take under 5 minutes from start to finish.

Make sure to use wild caught salmon to avoid artificial colors, gmo feed, and the antibiotics they need to give them due to sea lice and poor water conditions.

Wild salmon also more bang for the bite with nearly 400% more vitamin D & omega 3.

Additionally both are great for weight loss.

Vitamin D sufficient woman are on average 17 pounds lighter than vitamin D deficient woman and in a study woman were divided into two groups and gave one group omega-3 fatty acids. The women that were given the omega-3 fatty acids reduced their weight 20 percent more than the placebo group and reduced their BMI by up to 15 percent in only three weeks.

We make salmon cakes and then create a delicious cajun dip… see recipe here.

Brussels Sprouts

Extremely cancer protective because they are part of the cruciferous vegetable family.

THE LITTLE GREEN FAT-FIGHTING MACHINE. Most people make a face when you mention brussels sprouts, but you may want to give them another try based on new research showing their ability to burn fat. Brussels sprouts contain indole-3-carbinol, which increases production of a hormone called adiponectin, which tells your body to burn stored fat for fuel. Think of them as little green fat-burning machines!

Enjoy then baked in the oven coated with SKINNYFat and garlic..make sure to cook at 300 and wait till they get soft and delicious!
